ABOUT US

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a 150 year-old non-profit fraternal organization. There are nearly 2,000 Elks Lodges across the country.

Elks Lodges bring so much more to their communities than just a building, golf course or pool.
They are places where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up.
Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet need, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.

The Elks spend more than $80,000,000 every year for benevolent, educational and patriotic community-minded programs, scholarship programs, and youth activities.

Mission

To inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share.

Community Service

  • Scholarships – The Elks is the third largest scholarship provider in the United States. Beyond the BPOE national scholarship programs, the Redwood City Lodge honors 14 local high school seniors with scholarships up to $1000. For more information about scholarships, visit: https://www.elks.org/scholars
  • Veterans Services – The Elks has pledged that “As long as there are veterans, the Elks would never forget them.” Every Lodge has a formal relationship with a VA hospital or medical center. Our Lodge has served over 11,000 free steak dinners to local veterans and their caregivers.
  • Youth Activities – The Elks sponsor and support Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Daisies Troops, as well as local youth soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball teams.
  • Therapy Program for Disadvantaged Children – The California-Hawaii Elks Major Project (aka: Purple Pig) provides in-home physical, occupational, and speech therapy to children in areas where there are no local services. Elks fully underwrite this program through donations and fundraisers at the local lodges. For more information about CHEMPI or Purple Pig, visit: https://chea-elks.org/major-projectpurple pig
